National Highway & Motorway Police Announced Significant Increase in Fines for Violating Traffic Rules

To improve road safety and reduce fatalities, the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) has decided to increase the fine for traffic violations. The increase in fine was approved in a meeting chaired by the Federal Minister under the 12th schedule of NHSO-2000.

The revised traffic fines will take effect from October 1, 2023

Currently, NHMP is running various campaigns for general public awareness regarding the implementation of revised fine amounts using social media, print media, and distribution of pamphlets & brochures.


Under the latest decision, the minimum amount of fine is Rs. 500 for using a phone while driving or driving a vehicle without a mirror or bad mirror. On the other hand, the highest fine amount is Rs. 5000 depending on the nature of the violation and its intensity.

Overspeeding increases the risk of a road accident, to enhance road safety government has increased the overspeeding fine from Rs. 750 to Rs. 2500 while interfering with an emergency vehicle can cost you Rs .5000.
