Daihatsu Taft: Overview
The TAFT is designed to be a “Tough & almighty fun tool” that makes everyday life and leisure activities more enjoyable. As part of Daihatsu’s next-generation approach, following models like the Tanto and Rocky, the TAFT is set to join the growing mini crossover market.
Exterior Design
The TAFT looks tough and powerful, perfect for an SUV. It has a boxy shape, high ground clearance, and large tires. Plus, every model comes with the “Sky Feel Top,” a big glass roof over the front seats.
The car uses a new “Backpack Style” design. The front is a cozy “crew space” with exciting storage options, while the back is a flexible area you can arrange however you like.
Smart Safety Features
Daihatsu is all about making advanced technology available to everyone, so all TAFT models come with the Smart Assist safety system. The updated stereo cameras make the car even safer, allowing for faster reaction times and the ability to detect pedestrians at night. The electric parking brake is also a new addition, improving safety across all models.
The TAFT is built on the DNGA platform, which offers great comfort, stability, and performance at an affordable price.
Color Choices
The TAFT is available in nine colors, including three new ones inspired by nature:
- Lake Blue Metallic: A smoky blue that looks great, even when dirty.
- Forest Khaki Metallic: A bold and unique green.
- Sand Beige Metallic: A neutral color that fits any adventure.
Interior Design
Inside, the TAFT features a user-friendly black instrument panel with metallic orange accents to add energy and excitement. The seats, decorated with orange accents and camouflage patterns, provide great support to reduce fatigue on long drives.
Style Packs
The TAFT offers three style packs:
- Black Pack: Black mirrors, door handles, and gunmetal wheels. You can also add the “Dark Black Plating Pack” for extra toughness.
- Chrome Pack: Plated door handles and silver wheels for a more upscale look.
- White Pack: White mirrors, handles, and wheels for a relaxed feel.
Off-Road Capabilities
The TAFT can handle rough roads with ease. It has a 190mm ground clearance, large tires, and angles designed to handle steep approaches and exits.
Stability and Safety
The TAFT has a stability control system that kicks in if the car slips on muddy or uneven roads, helping to maintain control.
The car also includes 17 active safety features, including:
- Collision avoidance brakes that work faster.
- Pedestrian detection at night.
- Lane departure warnings and alerts for lane tracing.
- Improved traffic sign recognition.
There’s also an auto-hold brake function, which keeps the car still when stopped in traffic, even if you take your foot off the brake.
Convenience Features
The TAFT’s electric parking brake is standard across all models. It disengages automatically when you press the accelerator.
There’s also a Daihatsu Connect system that offers easy connectivity and convenience. You can connect your smartphone to a 6.8-inch or 9-inch display that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Competitors
In Pakistan, the Daihatsu TAFT competes with several compact SUVs in the growing mini-crossover market. Key rivals include the Suzuki Jimny, known for its off-road capabilities and rugged design; the Kia Stonic, a stylish city-friendly crossover with modern features; and the Toyota Raize, which shares the same DNGA platform as the TAFT, offering practicality and advanced safety features.
Other competitors include the Honda BR-V, a family-oriented mini SUV with a spacious interior, and the DFSK Glory 500, a budget-friendly Chinese SUV with a feature-rich package. These vehicles all cater to drivers seeking versatile, compact SUVs for both urban and off-road use.
